Discovery Program

This is the core service for Autism Action Pty Ltd and sets the foundations for learning.  It is specifically designed to meet the needs of any child on the Autism Spectrum. Autism Action prides itself on providing a holistic teaching approach by including all family members, others carers and services providers within the program. This service is tailored to the individual needs of the diagnosed child and their family.  Your personal Family Education Therapist will provide you with educational and emotional support. Along the way you will gain a better understanding of autism and develop the specific skills needed to further develop your child’s potential. These include the strategies and resources needed to develop your child’s communication, play, daily living, socialization and behavior management skills.  Strategies are “customized” to suit the varying dynamics of your family and your child's ongoing individual needs. Your Family Education Therapist will use a variety of teaching approaches and strategies which may include:
*    Music therapy.
*    PECS.
*    Behavior Modification.
*    Floortime.
*    Pivotal Response Training.
*    Sensory Integration.
*    Hanen.
*    Parent-Child Mother Goose.
Regardless of the strategy or approach  your Family Education Therapist will model and support you through each stage of your child’s development.
Your Family Education Therapist will also integrate and liaise with other specialized programs or professionals your child currently uses. These may include Early Intervention, Speech or Occupational Therapist.  We can also work closely with Kindergartens and Schools.  Professionals can access support through our Educational Consultancy Service.

Tutor Program

After 3-6 months of accessing the Discovery Program some children are ready for a more intensive learning program. The Tutor Program is a home based education program where tutors either work one on one or with small peer groups of children. Your child’s individually written program will teach play, communication, social and academic skills through repetition and motivating activities.  Your child’s program will be tailored to meet your family and child’s individual needs. This is an inclusive program so learning goals and activities can be easily adapted to suit the Kindergarten or school programs.
Parents have described these sessions as resembling normal play.  These combine one on one skills at the table (direct teaching), playing games, arts and crafts and cooking.  This makes it great fun for all participants.  And without realizing it the child is learning goals set in his/her program.

The Keys to Positive Outcomes

The Keys to Positive Outcomes are a series of workshops or seminars aimed at further developing parent and professional understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder.  Topics may include toilet training, managing difficult behaviors, learning how to use visual aides, the promotion of coherent talking, through to good listening skills. Groups sizes are kept to a minimum so you get the practice and individual support you need.  Take a look at ‘What’s on’ for current and future workshops.
